Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn is the largest commercial centre and original ostrich capital of the world. There are about 400 ostrich farms in the area producing meat and leather. Only a handful are ‘show-farms’ where you can ride the largest bird in the world, buy decorated eggs or learn about the birds unusual eating habits. As ostriches have neither teeth nor a crop, they tend to eat stones to help them grind and digest their food.
