Hermanus

Just over an hour from Cape Town, the coastal village of Hermanus is not only a popular beach holiday destination but located in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, it is a wine-tasting and whale-watching destination as well.

From the steep cliff overlooking the old harbour, you have a great vantage point to watch the Southern Right Whales that visit Walker Bay from June to October every year to calve before returning to feed in the Antarctic.

Driving to Hermanus is an unforgettable experience, regardless of the route you take. The scenery along the N2 via Sir Lowry’s Pass and the Houhoek Pass is spectacular as you climb to the higher reaches of the Hottentots Holland Mountains then dip down to a region known as the Overberg. An alternative option is the R44 that hugs the rugged coastline from Gordon’s Bay to Hermanus and offers beautiful sea and mountainscapes as it passes hamlets such as Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond.
