Rustenburg

Rustenburg is your city for several world class, malaria free wildlife parks. Pilanesberg National Park, which fills he base of an extinct volcano that surrounds Sun City, provides a highly affordable safari and accommodation option just an hour from the city. Those in search of more exclusivity should consider one of the many 5* lodges in Madikwe Private Game Reserve. The North West is rich in archaeological discoveries that go back to the beginnings of mankind and visitors can explore these at Sterkfontein and Maropeng. This area is also an outdoor country where you can try white water rafting, ballooning, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, abseiling, golf and bird watching.

Just 70 miles north of Johannesburg and an easy 3 hour drive from OR Tambo International airport, Rustenburg is one of the fastest growing cities in South Africa.

It is home to the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace Stadium and Sports Palace complex whose suites and training facilities were the base for the England team during the World Cup.

Rustenberg provides easy access to several regions in the northwest corner of the country that have a long history of welcoming tourists. The city itself sits in the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains, a scenic area with 5* hotels and country lodges as well as a range of outdoor activities.

The Hartebeesport Dam is another nearby attraction. Along with a range of water sports and boat trips on the dam, the area has several picnic spots and unique attractions that include the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Research Centre where you can stroke a purring big cat.

A brand new road built for 2010 whisks motorists between Rustenburg and the family entertainment on offer at Sun City in less than an hour.
